Dawn of the Flood: Halo's Flood parasite comes to Minecraft: Java Edition
Dawn of the Flood brings the Flood, the parasite from the Halo games, into Minecraft: Java Edition. It's a Forge and NeoForge mod for 1.20.1 from TheASEStefan and Betaeta, with Flood blocks and creatures, infected Sangheili and a Jackal, and larger forms such as the proto gravemind and a flooded golem that only spawns once a proto gravemind exists. The latest update, 0.6.3 "Madrigal" on 24 September 2026, is named after the Halo planet glassed by the Covenant. The team says the mod is still in very early development and needs several helper mods to run. First released in March 2024, it has passed 193,000 downloads on Modrinth. It joins the wire's other Halo mashups, such as Mario in Halo.
You need: Your own copy of Minecraft: Java Edition 1.20.1 with Forge or NeoForge, plus the four required mods listed on its Modrinth page. Halo itself isn't needed.
How to play
- Install Forge or NeoForge for Minecraft 1.20.1.
- Download Dawn of the Flood and its four required mods from Modrinth into your mods folder.
- Start a world and watch for the infection.
