PortalMod is a Minecraft Java Edition mod that sets out to reimagine the Portal experience inside Minecraft: a working Portal Gun plus a range of other features from the Portal games, so you can build and play your own test chambers in blocks. It is made by a small team (SerialSniper, PhantomEye and LarsMans) and runs on Forge for Minecraft 1.16.5. The latest release, v1.3.1, came out on 16 May 2026, following v1.3 and v1.2 earlier that month and in April. It has passed 40,000 downloads on Modrinth alone, and is also on CurseForge. It's a fan project with its own art, not an official Valve or Mojang release.

You need: Your own copy of Minecraft: Java Edition, set up for version 1.16.5 with the Forge mod loader. Portal itself is not needed.

How to play

  1. Install Forge for Minecraft 1.16.5 from its official site.
  2. Download PortalMod v1.3.1 from its Modrinth page and put the file in your mods folder.
  3. Launch the Forge 1.16.5 profile and craft or spawn the Portal Gun.
