Egg of Time is a native PC port of the Nintendo DS version of Chrono Trigger, made by static recompilation: every function of the game's code is translated into C and compiled into a native program, with a small runtime standing in for the DS hardware. It is not an emulator. It adds widescreen, high resolutions, high frame rates, gamepad support, save states and mod folders for cutscenes and music. Nothing from the game ships in the download: on first start it builds the game on your PC from your own ROM, which takes a few minutes, using tools bundled in the zip. The creator says it was developed with Claude Code doing the reverse-engineering analysis and writing the recompiler and runtime. v0.2.2 landed on Oct 27, the third release that day.
