METROID: SAMUS RETURNS GOES NATIVE ON PC, STEAM DECK AND ANDROID AT 4K AND 144 FPS
msr2ds 2.0: Metroid: Samus Returns recompiled into a native single-screen game
gminustwo's msr2ds has dropped its emulator. Version 2.0 (5 November) recompiles Metroid: Samus Returns from your own dump into native code, with a small 3DS runtime of its own; the earlier 1.x builds ran on an emulator and stay available. The two 3DS screens become one 16:9 screen in the style of Metroid Dread, with energy, missiles and beams at the upper left and the map at the upper right, and Start brings up the game's bottom screen. It runs at up to 10x internal resolution (4K at 9x), 30 to 144 fps, ultrawide up to 32:9 and HDR on Windows. Hard Mode, the amiibo galleries and Fusion Mode are unlocked from the start, and it adds cheats, quick saves, texture packs, game mods, Randovania seeds, keyboard and mouse. The first build downloads about 105 MB of tools and takes a few minutes, once. Version 2.0.1 fixed that build on Macs the same day. No game files are included.
You need: Your own decrypted dump of Metroid: Samus Returns (USA) as .3ds, .cci, .cxi, .zcci or .zcxi, a Vulkan 1.3 GPU (any Apple Silicon Mac works) and about 1 GB free for the first build. The Mac app is not notarized. No game files are included.
How to play Metroid: Samus Returns on PC
- Download the build for your system from the v2.0 or v2.0.1 release.
- On the Game tab, choose your own dump and click Build the native code (a few minutes, once).
- Click Play; F1 or Select opens the in-game menu.
