VAGRANT STORY GOES NATIVE ON PC, WITH RAY-TRACED SHADOWS AND A LIVE EDITOR
Vagrant Story gets a native PC port with ray-traced lighting

rood-boi is an unofficial native PC port of Vagrant Story for Linux, with Windows builds made from Linux or WSL. It runs the decompiled C from the rood-reverse decompilation compiled for x86-64, with no emulator or MIPS interpreter, and a host layer standing in for the PlayStation's GPU, sound, CD drive, memory cards and pad. On top sits a new renderer: native meshes on Vulkan or OpenGL, hardware ray-traced shadows, path-traced or probe-based global illumination and volumetric haze, while keeping the PS1 look. A live, Unreal-style editor lets you fly a free camera and place lights while the game runs. It's source only, and work is ongoing.
You need: Your own Vagrant Story disc image. No game data is included. Building needs Linux (Ubuntu 24.04 packages listed in the README), and ray tracing needs a capable Vulkan GPU.
