SONIC ADVENTURE IS 100% DECOMPILED: FIRST COMPLETE MATCHING DECOMP OF A DREAMCAST GAME
Sonic Adventure gets a complete matching decompilation, the first for a retail Dreamcast game

reshaped has published a complete matching decompilation of the original Japanese release of Sonic Adventure (HDR-0001, version 1.007), which the README calls the first complete matching decompilation of a retail Dreamcast game, including the Katana SDK code it links. All 247 binaries (the main executable plus 246 overlays for stages, bosses, fields, Chao gardens, menus and 204 story events, about 5.8 MB of code) rebuild from source byte for byte; 97.7% is C and the rest assembly, much of it handwritten in the original. It is a source-code milestone, not a PC port: building it checks every rebuilt binary against your own disc, using period Hitachi SHC compilers from the decomp.me archive. A matching decomp is the base that native ports and deep mods are usually built on. It is separate from the Sonic Adventure recompilation work already on the wire.
You need: A Linux x86-64 PC with make, Python 3.8+, a C compiler and curl, plus your own Japanese Sonic Adventure disc (HDR-0001, v1.007) for a full build. 'make check' runs without the disc. No game files are included. This builds the original Dreamcast binaries; it is not a playable PC port.
How to play Sonic Adventure on PC
- Clone the repo on Linux and install make, Python, a C compiler and curl.
- Put 1ST_READ.BIN, LOADER.BIN and SONICADV/ (or the .gdi and tracks) from your own disc in orig/.
- Run make to rebuild every binary and check it byte for byte against your disc.
