Liberty Pro Max: GTA IV recompiled to run natively on Apple silicon Macs and iPads
Awis13's Liberty Pro Max (v0.2.1-beta, 2 November) is a native port of the PC version of Grand Theft Auto IV (1.0.8.0) to Apple silicon Macs and iPads, with experimental Apple TV support. The game's x86 code is statically recompiled to C++ with x86recomp, so it runs with no Wine, emulation or virtual machine. It adds a Metal renderer written for the port, TAA, SMAA and MetalFX upscaling, Game Mode, ultrawide support and about 100 fixes from FusionFix and ZolikaPatch, each a switch in the launcher. The README reports about 125 fps indoors and 60 to 100 fps outdoors at 3440x1440 on an M3 Pro. It's a beta: the story is playable from a save. The repo contains no part of the game; you build it from your own PC copy of GTA IV. It joins the other GTA IV ports on the wire, such as the PS5 native build.
You need: Your own PC copy of Grand Theft Auto IV, version 1.0.8.0, and an Apple silicon Mac. No game files are included.
How to play Grand Theft Auto IV: The Complete Edition on PC
- Download Liberty Pro Max Builder from the v0.2.1-beta release.
- Point the builder at your own GTA IV 1.0.8.0 install to build the Mac (and optionally iPad) version.
- Set the fixes and graphics options in the launcher, then play.
