Mario Kart DS gets a native Windows port by static recompilation, DS Kart Recompiled v0.1.1 out

AlonsoTlol has released DS Kart Recompiled, a native Windows port of the European Mario Kart DS made by static recompilation, not an emulator. The code for both of the DS's processors (ARM9 and ARM7) is translated into C and compiled into a normal Windows program, with a small runtime standing in for the console's memory, timers, 2D and 3D graphics, sound, saves and controls. Per the README, the port renders 3D at 2x, 3x or 4x resolution with pixel-perfect menus and HUD, generates in-between frames for up to 240 fps while game logic stays at 60, can show both screens side by side in full screen, supports PS5, PS4 and Xbox controllers and your PC microphone for Balloon Battle, saves 30-second instant replays with F10, and unlocks everything from the start. A multilingual launcher translates and compiles your own cartridge dump on first run (it fetches Python and a compiler from their official sites). v0.1.0 and v0.1.1 both landed on Oct 29; the creator warns these first builds have plenty of bugs. It joins a run of DS-era recomps on the wire, after Chrono Trigger DS's Egg of Time.

How to play Mario Kart DS on PC

Download DS-Kart-Recompiled-v0.1.1.zip from Releases and extract it (don't run it from inside the zip).
Open Launcher.exe, pick your language and, in Settings, your own AMCP ROM.
Enter your name and press PLAY; the first run builds the game from your ROM in a few minutes.
