SONIC R RACES ONTO THE PSP: THE 1998 SONIC RACER RUNS AT 60 FPS ON SONY'S HANDHELD
Sonic R (1998 PC) ported to the PSP at 60 fps, built on the Sonic R decompilation

ghurone's Sonic R PSP is a homebrew port of the 1998 PC version of Sonic R to the PlayStation Portable, built on jnmartin84's Sonic R decompilation. It runs the game's 30 Hz logic with an interpolated extra frame for 60 fps (30 is still an option), draws the track, characters and fog on the PSP's GE chip, adds 16:9 widescreen in one-player races and up to double the PC's Very Far draw distance, streams music as ATRAC3 from the Memory Stick and fixes several decompilation bugs checked against the original SONICR.EXE. The release ships only a ready-made EBOOT.PBP; a Python tool converts the files and music from your own Sonic R PC CD into the Memory Stick folder.
You need: A PSP with custom firmware, Python 3, atracdenc 0.2.3 and your own Sonic R PC CD (a .bin/.cue dump or the disc). No game data is included; never share the generated SONICR.PAK.
How to play Sonic R on PC
- Download EBOOT.PBP from the Releases page.
- Run python tools/make_ms_folder.py --eboot <path to EBOOT.PBP> with your own Sonic R PC CD, as the README explains.
- Copy the generated folder to your PSP's Memory Stick and launch it from the Game menu.
