DinoTale: Yoshi's Story recompiled to run natively on Windows, Linux and Steam Deck
DinoTale, by wootbeer, is an unofficial static recompilation of Nintendo's 1997 N64 platformer Yoshi's Story, built with N64Recomp on N64ModernRuntime and rendered with RT64, the same toolchain behind the bigger N64 recomps on the wire. It runs natively on Windows and Linux, including the Steam Deck, with an experimental true widescreen mode that shows more of each level, HUD placement options, CRT, scanline and upscaler filters, remappable keyboard and controller support, saves and sound. Version 0.1.7 came out on 26 October. No game files are included: on first launch you pick your own USA cartridge dump, which is checked against a hash and never modified.
You need: Your own Yoshi's Story (USA) ROM dumped from your cartridge (.z64, .n64 or .v64). Windows or Linux.
How to play Yoshi's Story on PC
- Download DinoTale for Windows or Linux from the GitHub releases page.
- Unzip it and run DinoTale (on Steam Deck, add it to Steam as a non-Steam game).
- Pick your own Yoshi's Story ROM on first launch, then set Expand in Graphics for widescreen.
