Drakan PC: The Ancients' Gates (PS2) statically recompiled for Windows, Linux and the browser
Drakan PC by ChristopherVR is a static recompilation of Surreal Software's 2002 PS2 action RPG: the game's PS2 program is translated to C++ and compiled on your own PC into a native Windows or Linux game, or a WebAssembly build for the browser, with a new runtime for graphics, sound, input and saves. Options include 60 fps or uncapped frame rates, widescreen, higher resolutions, DLSS on NVIDIA RTX cards, ray-traced water and shadows, and HD textures generated from your own disc. There's direct mouse look with WASD, modern bow aiming, optional dual wielding, a full-screen map and a new inventory, plus quicksave and quickload. Windows has the fullest feature set. The repo opened on 28 October, and 0.1.3 (5 November) fixes multiplayer movement and pickups. It also ships a save editor and a game editor. The first build takes one to two hours, once. No game files are included.
You need: A plain .iso of your own PS2 disc: PAL SCES-500.06, or USA SCUS-971.28 with fewer features. The one-time build needs at least 16 GB of RAM (24 GB recommended) and about 10 GB free, and takes one to two hours. No game files are included.
How to play Drakan: The Ancients' Gates on PC
- Download DrakanPC-Setup.exe from the Releases page.
- Point it at your own disc image and let it build the game, once.
- Play; F1 opens the PC settings.
