NINJA GAIDEN II GETS A SECOND NATIVE PC PORT WITH A NEW VULKAN RENDERER AND MOD SUPPORT
IzunaRecomp: a second native PC take on Ninja Gaiden II, with its own Vulkan renderer
IzunaRecomp is a static recompilation of the Xbox 360 Ninja Gaiden II for Windows, and it joins openNG2, which we covered this week, as a second way to play the 2008 version natively. Its calling card is the Kasumi Renderer: the game's Direct3D calls are answered by a native Vulkan renderer using the game's own shaders recompiled for your GPU, instead of an emulated Xbox GPU. It began as a fork of the Ninja's Dawn recompilation and grew into its own project, adding a hub app, an in-game menu, any resolution up to 2160p, V-Sync that follows high refresh monitors, rebindable controls and a Mods folder with texture replacement and Lua scripts. Gameplay stays 1:1 with the Xbox 360 game. The README says the code was written by an AI coding agent, directed by a maintainer who tested each build, on a single 4060 PC so far, so expect rough edges. If you get stutters, the creator suggests turning off the skip intro patch.
You need: Your own copy of Ninja Gaiden II for Xbox 360, extracted to a folder containing default.xex. Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit, and a Vulkan GPU: GTX 900, RX 400, Intel Arc or newer.
How to play Ninja Gaiden II on PC
- Download the Windows zip from the creator's GitHub releases page and unzip it anywhere.
- Run ng2.exe and point the hub at your own game folder.
- Press Start Game; the first start compiles shaders from your copy, later starts skip that.
