Two days after Nintendo's Switch 2 remake of Ocarina of Time went on sale, sostenesfreitas has put out Ocarina Recomp, an experimental static recompilation that already gets you walking around on Windows. The game's code is translated to C and compiled into a Windows program on your own PC, and the Switch 2 graphics are converted to Vulkan. No emulator runs underneath. Be clear on how early this is: the README says it has been tested on one PC only (Ryzen 9 9950X3D and RTX 5090), in the Kokiri village at the start of the game. There, graphics, sound, controller, saves and videos work, at about 59 fps standing still and 51 to 55 fps walking, with some stutter on entering new areas. Hyrule Field, the rest of the game and AMD and Intel cards are untested. It credits dkb-pc-recomp and TotK Recomp as its base. Updates came fast on 7 November: v0.2.2 fixed a crash after the opening cinematic at the Deku Tree, v0.2.3 prepares shaders at install to cut first-run stutters, and v0.2.4 brings back the lighting on leaves and grass. It goes further than Jeff Aigner's Ocarina of Time PC Recomp research project, also on the wire, which has no release yet. The repo holds no game, keys or executable.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (Switch 2 remake) → Windows · by sostenesfreitas · 2026-11-07

You need: Your own copy of the Switch 2 game (a .nup file, or a folder with exefs and romfs), and Windows. The installer sets up the build tools and compiles the game on your PC. It isn't signed, so Windows warns. No game files or keys are included, and what it builds comes from your game, so don't share it.

How to play The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on PC

  1. Open the Releases page and read the README first: this is a test build.
  2. Run the installer, or the readable scripts in the repo, and pick your own copy of the game.
  3. Let it compile on your PC, then start ocarina.exe.
