Tenchu Z Recompiled, by Aulcreen, is an unofficial native port of the 2007 Xbox 360 stealth game for Windows and macOS. The game is statically recompiled to C++ with the ReXGlue SDK, so it runs without an emulator. The first release, v0.1.0, went up on Nov 4 with a Windows installer and a Mac disk image. The README lists a native renderer up to 4x resolution, 4x MSAA, FXAA, sharpening and texture filtering, 60 fps, keyboard and mouse with rebindable keys, Xbox and Steam controllers, and achievements saved on your PC, not Xbox Live. There's also a new option: blood stays on the player until they swim. System Link works online through Steam, using Valve's public Spacewar test app, so you play directly with Steam friends and Steam shows you as playing Spacewar. Sound still runs through an emulated Xbox XMA decoder, which the creator chose to keep. The creator's GitHub account is years old, but this repo appeared the same day as the release, so it has no track record yet.
You need: Your own Tenchu Z (Xbox 360) disc image. Setup checks it before installing. Windows or macOS, and Steam for online play. No game data is included.
How to play Tenchu Z on PC
- Download the Windows installer or Mac disk image from the releases page.
- Run setup and give it your own Tenchu Z disc image. It's not needed again after installing.
- Press Esc in the game for display, controls, audio and online settings.
