ZELDA: BREATH OF THE WILD RUNS NATIVELY ON APPLE SILICON MACS IN A NEW RECOMP
BOTWRecomp: Breath of the Wild's Wii U version recompiled into a native Apple Silicon Mac app, v0.2.0 out
Breath of the Wild now has a native Mac port. BOTWRecomp statically recompiles the Wii U version (1.5.0) into an Apple Silicon app that draws with Metal, and the creator calls it fully playable: it boots, plays the intro and the Great Plateau with menus, NPCs, sound, cutscenes, saving and the DLC, at 30, 60, 120 fps or uncapped on an M4 MacBook Air. An installer takes the files from your dump and builds and signs the app on your own Mac, can import a save from Cemu, and merges mods file by file. It follows the earlier BotW Recompiled port for Windows on the wire. v0.1.8 and v0.2.0 both shipped on 6 November.
You need: Your own dump of Breath of the Wild for Wii U (USA or European release, extracted: base game, update 1.5.0, and the DLC if you want it). An Apple Silicon Mac. No game code or assets are included.
How to play The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild on PC
- Download BOTWRecomp-<version>.dmg from the creator's GitHub releases page and open it.
- Click Find in a Folder… and choose the folder with your dump (optionally import a Cemu save).
- Let the installer build the app on your Mac, then launch it.
