RED DEAD REVOLVER RIDES TO PC: ROCKSTAR'S 2004 WESTERN GETS A NATIVE WINDOWS PORT
Red Dead Revolver: Rockstar's 2004 Xbox western recompiled into a native Windows game, v1.4 out
Red Dead Revolver, the game that started Rockstar's western series and never came to PC, now runs natively on Windows through a new static recompilation of the original Xbox version. The game's x86 code is translated to C and compiled for PC, and a runtime built on the xboxrecomp project stands in for the console, so no emulator runs while you play. It holds the game's 60 Hz with internal resolution up to 4x (2560x1920), 16:9 widescreen, free mouse aiming, Xbox and PlayStation button prompts and an in-game settings menu on F2. The repo went up on 4 November and the updates came fast: v1.4 today adds a Check for updates button, after v1.3.1 added three ways to fit the old cutscenes on a wide screen. Only the PAL (Europe) Xbox release works. Other versions are refused at startup.
You need: Your own PAL (Europe) Xbox copy of Red Dead Revolver; its default.xbe must be 4,452,352 bytes, and the NTSC/USA version won't run. Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit. The creator's GitHub account is new, so scan the download and get it only from the releases page below.
How to play Red Dead Revolver on PC
- Download RedDeadRevolverPC.zip from the creator's GitHub releases page and unzip it.
- Drag your own Xbox ISO onto the install batch file, or copy your extracted game files into the Game folder.
- Open the settings launcher, choose your options and press play.
