OpenCiv3: a fan-built, open-source remake of Civilization III in Godot
OpenCiv3, a fan community project once codenamed C7, is an open-source, mod-focused remake of Civilization III built with the Godot engine and C#. Its goal is the game as it could have been: no arbitrary limits, broken features fixed, more room for mods, and modern graphics and platforms. The latest build, v0.3-dutch-2, landed on Oct 31 for Windows, Mac and Linux. Keep expectations in check: the README calls it pre-alpha, a rudimentary playable game that's missing many mechanics and late-game content. It works best with Civilization III Conquests or Complete installed, though the game doesn't have to run. Without a copy, a standalone mode uses placeholder graphics. Added as a library pick, not new this week.
You need: 64-bit Windows, Mac or Linux. Your own installed copy of Civilization III Conquests or Complete is recommended. Standalone mode with placeholder graphics works without one.
How to play Civilization III Complete on PC
- Download the build for your system from the Releases page and unpack it.
- Follow the install notes for that release, and point it at your own Civilization III copy if you have one.
- Start a game, and expect missing mechanics at this stage.
